The McDonald County 16U baseball team went 1-3 at the Fort Scott 16U Baseball Tournament, including dropping a pair of lop-sided decisions to an all-star team from Kansas City.

McDonald County opened pool play against the Kansas City Bullets on June 15. The Bullets scored three runs in the first, two in the second and then broke the game open with eight runs in the third on the way to a 15-0 decision.

Ethan Francisco went the distance on the mound to take the loss, while Matthew Mora had the only McDonald County hit.

In McDonald County's second game, the Wichita Sluggers scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and then held McDonald County scoreless in the top of the seventh for an 8-7 win.

Sampson Boles took the loss for McDonald County.

Wichita jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, but McDonald County tied the game with five runs in the top of the third.

Cole Martin led off the inning with a single. Martin stole second and went to third on an overthrow before scoring on a one-out single by Levi Helm.

Bo Leach was hit with a pitch to put runners on first and second for Wyatt Jordan. Jordan hit a drive into the left-field gap for a two-run double. Mora walked before Junior Eliam drove in a run with a double. Josh Parsons drove in the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.

Wichita answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning, but McDonald County tied the game in the top of the fourth.

Helm reached on an error and scored on a double by Leach.

McDonald County took a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the fifth. With two out, Boles walked and came around to score on a triple by Helm.

McDonald County avenged its loss to Wichita the following day, claiming a 7-6 win over the Sluggers.

Lee Sohse got the win, allowing six runs in seven innings.

Jordan had two hits and scored two runs and Eliam had two hits and drove in two runs to lead the offense.

The win earned McDonald County a second shot at the Kansas City Bullets. The Bullets proved their first win was no fluke, claiming an 18-0 win in the rematch.

Jordan went the first inning and a third for the loss. Wade Rickman relieved with two-thirds of an inning of relief before Eliam worked the final two innings.

Mora and Sohse had the only McDonald County hits.

McDonald County was at Springfield on June 19 before hosting the Clever Warriors on June 26. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
