Plans Coming Together For Ozark Orchard Festival

From bouncy houses to a 50/50 pot and petting zoo, plans are coming together for the third Annual Ozark Orchard Festival in Goodman.

Organizers are lining up games and activities and are seeking vendors, as well, as the event grows closer.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Goodman ballfield.

As in years past, food, games, live music and bounce houses will be part of the family-friendly, fun event.

Organizers will feature various events and activities, including a cow drop, a petting zoo, a 50/50 pot, a pie auction, games and door prizes.

For those who are interested in selling their wares in a vendor booth, the fee is $10. Those who need access to electricity will be charged $15.

The festival celebrates the heritage of the area, which was known for acres and acres of apples and provided a great economic impact, said Goodman Mayor Greg Richmond. The event is a great way of bringing the community together for a day of fun, he said.

"Our Ozark Orchard festival staff, families and friends find it quite rewarding to provide a festival that our citizens, neighbors and community can enjoy and spend a day of food, fun and family time," Richmond said.

Volunteers are needed to help with the festival, from serving food to helping with children's activities to providing musical entertainment.

Again this year, event-goers will have the opportunity to enjoy some free food, which will be offered around the lunch hour, Richmond said.

Event organizers will have jars set up for donations. Any money donated will help fund next year's event, he said.

Vendors also may be on hand to sell some food, Richmond added.

Officials have already obtained monetary aid to secure major activities. Cornerstone Bank and First Community Bank each donated $500 toward the festival earlier this year, which helped pay for the cost of the bouncy houses and obstacles.

Long-term, festival officials hope to raise enough money to purchase playground equipment at the Goodman ballpark. As part of an ongoing candy sale, a variety of candy bars and lollipops are available at city hall. Candy bars are offered for $1 and $2, depending on the kind, as well as 50-cent lollipops.
