Council Considers Restroom For Bike Park

The Pineville City Council, at its meeting Tuesday, discussed the need for a restroom at the bike park.

Mayor Greg Sweeten said a one-room concrete-block building with a metal roof would cost $16,850. Lowes sent a bid for a 12-by-16 building not including a concrete pad. It was $4,207. Main Street Lumber in Southwest City quoted an 8-by-12 building at $1,752. The Lowes building was wood sided, and the Main Street Lumber building was metal sided. Both had shingled roofs. The quotes were for materials only, as Sweeten has volunteers lined up to build the structure. All city workers will have to do is pour the concrete pad.

Aldermen said they wanted to keep the wood look at the bike park, but they preferred to buy local from Southwest City. Since the buildings differed greatly, they decided to table the issue until they could get more exact comparisons.

The council also looked at an ordinance dealing with fencing setbacks. Alderman Scott Dennis said that, right now, homeowners can build fences up to the corner, causing blind spots for drivers. He also noted fences can be made of anything because there is no ordinance to enforce specific materials.

The proposed ordinance would allow a maximum fence height of four feet in the front yard. Alderman Becky Davis said someone might need a six-foot chain link fence in front if they had a big dog. Dennis said he would be OK with a six-foot chain-link fence.

The ordinance was tabled until the next meeting.

Also Tuesday, Linda Schlessman told the council that city workers had taken up the survey markers at three of her properties and she wants them put back.

Sweeten said, "If it's something we tore up, we'll put it back."

The council passed an ordinance closing city employee records that include personal information.

It also passed an ordinance restricting the use of portable storage containers. They cannot be used for permanent storage.

Sweeten also told the council the historical society plans on shutting down the drive between the post office and the old sheriff's house. He noted it is not city property.
