City Prepared For Movie Nights

OFFICIALS PURCHASING NEW CONCESSION EQUIPMENT

If the weather ever cooperates, Pineville city officials will be ready to serve delicious cotton candy and fresh popcorn.

City Council members approved a measure Monday night for the purchase of machines to cotton candy and popcorn.

The city is utilizing two very old machines during the Movie Nights on the Square that are not in good shape, Pineville Mayor Gregg Sweeten said, adding that the cotton-candy machine is throwing sparks.

The weather has not been very favorable for showing the free family-friendly movies outside, with at least two cancellations in recent weeks.

Officials plan to go ahead and purchase a new cotton-candy machine and a popcorn machine. When the weather cooperates and the movies can be featured, refreshments will be available. Cotton candy sells very well, Sweeten said.

In other business, a recent dog bite incident has spurred board members to discuss possibly purchasing gloves and a pole for animal control.

The Pineville Marshal's Office also will clean a tranquilizer gun that it has on hand.

Deputy Marshal Chris Owens said a push bumper has been replaced on a patrol car, which was recently damaged in an accident. Officials will not be gaining any insurance money from the suspect involved in the incident, because the vehicle and the license plates were stolen, Owens said.

Other business included swearing-in Carla Lasiter to a position on the Housing Board.
