14U Team Sweeps Opener

After starting the year 4-0, the McDonald County 14U baseball team went 1-3 at the Fort Scott 14U Baseball Tournament on May 27-28 at Fort Scott High School.

McDonald County lost its tournament opener 10-4 to Lansing, Kan, before falling 14-4 to both Natural Baseball Academy from Olathe, Kan. and to Next Level from Wichita, Kan.

McDonald County picked up a 13-4 win over Fort Scott Buck Commander in its final game of the tournament for its lone victory.

McDonald County opened its season with a doubleheader sweep of Tahlequah, Okla., on May 22 in Tahlequah. McDonald County scored 19 runs in the first inning of the first game on the way to a 32-0 win. Cole Martin, Levi Helm, Levi Malone and Dylan Igisomar had two hits for McDonald County while Matthew Mora, Bo Leach, Wyatt Habert, Wyatt Jordan, Eli Jackson, Cross Dowd and Brandon Armstrong all had one hit each.

Leach never allowed a hit in three innings to get the win.

In the nightcap, McDonald County claimed a 9-1 win behind the pitching of Jordan, Jackson and Armstrong.

Igisomar had two hits while Jordan added an RBI double.

On May 25, McDonald County defeated Grove, Okla., 8-0 and 10-0. Helm picked up the win in the opener while Habert shutout Grove in the nightcap.

Malone and Martin had RBI singles in the first game while Malone added an RBI double in the second game. Also in the second game, Leach, Helm and Dowd had RBI hits for McDonald County.

McDonald County, 5-3 for the season, was at Jay, Okla., on May 30 before returning home to host Joplin on June 1.
