Pineville Officials Plan For Motto On Water Tower

The Pineville City Council approved some measures Tuesday night that will help beautify and expand the amenities for area neighbors.

Public Works Director Chris Tinsley said construction on the new water tower will begin soon. He is working with engineers on placing the logo on the water tank.

City council members, at a previous meeting, had voted to simply put the logo on the water tower. In that previous meeting, Mayor Gregg Sweeten was absent and Alderman Scott Dennis served as mayor.

On Tuesday night, Dennis said the Planning Commission was not happy about the city council's previous decision and he felt the matter needed to be revisited. He made a motion to add the motto, "Nature At Its Best," to the tower as well. The board approved the measure, 2-1. Alderman Becky Davis was absent.

The logo and motto will be featured on two new welcoming signs as drivers exit and enter the town. Officials are waiting on state approval for those signs.

The board also voted to approve the bills of $90,729.45, which included the purchase of the two properties for a proposed recreation center, which was announced earlier in the day at a city press conference.

In other projects, Sweeten said the culvert project by the ball park may be funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Officials believe that 75 to 100 percent of the project may be funded, he added.

Officials also discussed how to move and rid the proposed recreation center property of a house that is currently located there, as well as speaking about a directional light that has been installed at the new bike park which shines light on the entire park.

City council members also discussed a sewer lift station, which the jail utilizes, that is often clogged with clothing items flushed by inmates. Tinsley will fix the meter to help alleviate the problem.
