Civil War Clothing And The Language of Fans

HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETS JAN. 15

The Jan. 15 meeting of the McDonald County Historical Society is at 2 p.m. at the Pineville Community Building on Jesse James Road with featured speakers Judy Rickett and Linda Jefferson.

Rickett and her late husband, Dan, were often part of Civil War re-enactments over the years and became experts on the Civil War. Rickett and her sister, Linda Jefferson, will be presenting and dressing in Civil War clothes of the period and will talk about the role clothing played in the life of the soldiers and families of the time. If you have clothes or military artifacts of that period, they hope you will bring them and tell the story of how they came to be in your possession.

Those attending will also be discussing the "Language of Fans." This is a great program for the family to enjoy together. The presentation is free, educational, fun and open to the community. Light refreshments will be served.

The McDonald County Historical Society was formed to collect, preserve and share the rich, unique history of McDonald County and preserve that history and culture for future generations. Since 2011, the group has worked to restore the Historical County Courthouse on the square in Pineville. The old courthouse now houses a "WOW" county museum where visitors can explore the unique features of McDonald County History. It is a great destination for family reunions and when the grandchildren come to visit.

The museum will reopen on Memorial Day 2017 and will then be open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through the middle of December.
