Special To McDonald County Press

The Lambda Chi Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority announced the winners of their scholarships for the 2016 graduating class of McDonald County High School. The scholarships were presented at the 2016 Senior Awards Program May 10 at McDonald County High School by Scholarship Chairman Margie Edmonds. Both scholarships are given in memory of members the chapter has lost to cancer in past years.

The winner of the Margaret Coffee Memorial Scholarship is given to a young lady planning to go into the education field like Margy. This year's winner is Hannah Lynn Vaughn. Vaughn is the daughter of Raymond and Becky Adams of Anderson. She plans to attend Crowder College and Missouri State University. Vaughn plans to be a teacher, but is undecided on a definite area. She has participated in FCCLA, National Honor Society, Honor Roll and Cheerleading. Additionally she has been active in many worthwhile community projects.

The winner of the Shirley Rector Memorial Scholarship is presented to a young lady that gives 100 percent in all her endeavors. This year's winner is Bailey Land, daughter of Dustin and Melissa Allgood of rural Pineville. Land will be attending Crowder College in the fall to pursue her education in the nursing field. She then plans to transfer to a university after receiving an associate degree. Her long-term goal is to be an OB-GYN doctor. She has been active in FCA, FCCLA, Show Choir and will receive an A-Plus scholarship. Land is a member of Sharing and Caring of NWA and has given of her time tutoring younger students.

Both of these young ladies rank high in their graduating class and are to be commended for an outstanding high school career. Their parents too deserve congratulations on an outstanding job of guiding them in their young lives.

The winners were chosen by a panel of ladies from Bella Vista, Ark. They did not know the names of the applicants and chose them from information on their application. Lambda Chi Chapter feels this is the only fair way to choose winners because most of our 15 members know many of the young ladies that apply each year and several have worked in the education field as well.
