Ittner speaks to Noel Woman's Club

Special To McDonald County Press

The March meeting of the Noel Woman's Club was held March 8. After the Pledge of Allegiance and Lord's Prayer, roll call was answered by 14 members and one guest. Minutes were read and approved as well as the treasurer's report. Louine Gardner thanked the Club for the homemade cookies that were provided for the Meals on Wheels folks for Valentine's Day. They were much appreciated.

The Club voted to donate a gift basket to the MS support group that is being organized in the county for their first fundraiser on April 8 at the Pineville Community Building. They also voted to donate a gift basket to the McDonald County Historical Society for their fundraiser. A monetary donation was made to the Noel school library for books for the children. This year the Club is able to donate to both the primary and elementary school.

Their guest speaker this month is Barb Ittner, representing the Silver Haired Legislature. She explained how this vital organization works in coordination with the Area Agency on Aging and the Department of Health and Senior Services, Division of Senior and Disability Services. Missouri was the first state to organize this in 1973 and has been responsible for getting proposals passed into law to help seniors. One such law is the deletion of sales tax on prescription drugs. The Club also welcomes Barb as their newest member.

The Club enjoyed St. Patrick's Day-themed refreshments served by hostess Vicki Barth. The next meeting will be April 12. New members are welcome. Please call 417-475-5043 for information concerning the club.
