Library Readies Programs for Summer

McDonald County Library is gearing up to offer summer reading programs for children, teens and adults. The Library will offer special events, incentives and fun activities to promote the enjoyment of reading a good book and to help children and teens maintain their reading skills over the summer.

The children's program will provide readers and listeners, preschool age through sixth grade, with the opportunity to explore the world of games, wellness and fitness through story times, art activities, programs and prizes using the theme "On Your Mark, Get Set -- Read!"

The Teen program, for young people going into grades seven through 12, proclaims an edgy "Get in the Game -- Read!" theme and will give teens the opportunity to take part in weekly programs and the added bonus of winning a fun mix of prizes.

Not to be left out, the adult program's catch phrase is "Exercise Your Mind -- Read!" This program will allow adults the opportunity to read, win prizes and participate in several special events.

The Library will kick-off Summer Reading on Saturday, June 4, with a drop-in event featuring children's activities and games. All ages are welcome to pick up reading logs and program information on June 4 or anytime during the following week.

All Summer Reading events and activities are free of charge, and many are made possible thanks to a federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, as administered by the Missouri State Library, and partnerships with local organizations.

For more information and a complete schedule of events, call 417-223-4489 or visit the library's website at www.mcdonaldcountylibrary.org.
