Jackson receives life sentence in murder case

Carl Lee Jackson, convicted murderer of Rodney Frederick, was sentenced in McDonald County Circuit Court Tuesday, July 19.

A McDonald County jury returned verdicts of guilty on one charge each of murder in the first degree, armed criminal action, and burglary in the first degree following a trial in May of 2016.

On Oct. 22, 2014, Carl Lee Jackson, his nephew Robert J. Jackson and Richard Knee went to the home of Rodney Frederick in rural McDonald County, intending to rob Frederick of marijuana and money.

Upon entry into the residence, Carl Jackson shot Frederick's dog, then he and his accomplices tied up Frederick's mother and another male who were present in the home.

While demanding that Frederick open a safe and surrender his money and marijuana, a confrontation occurred in which Carl Jackson shot Frederick three times, causing Frederick's death.

Robert Jackson and Richard Knee each testified on behalf of the state during Carl Jackson's trial.

Both Robert Jackson and Richard Knee entered pleas of guilty to murder in the second degree and armed criminal action. Each were sentenced to a total of 20 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

The jury recommended sentences of life without the possibility of parole in the count of murder in the first degree; 20 years on the count of armed criminal action; and 15 years on the count of burglary in the first degree.

Judge Timothy W. Perigo imposed those recommended sentences.
