McDonald County Ends Season With Loss To Frontenac

Frontenac, Kan., defeated McDonald County 5-0 June 30 in a nine-inning post-season game at McDonald County High School to bring the McDonald County 18U baseball team's season to an end.

The loss in a battle of third place teams from the North and South Divisions of the MO-KAN Baseball League left McDonald County with an 8-7 record for the season.

Jaime Hanke took the loss for McDonald County, allowing two runs on six hits in six innings. The senior right-hander gave up six hits while striking out four and walking one.

Tyler Sellers worked the final three innings, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks.

Frontenac scored a run in the first on a walk, a hit and an error before adding a run in the third on a pair of doubles. The score stayed 2-0 until the eighth, when Frontenac scored three runs on a hit, a walk and a three-run homer.

McDonald County was held to six hits, including two by Emitt Dalton and one each by Hanke, A.J. Madewell, Charlie Moore and Victor Payne. McDonald County stranded 11 runners over the nine innings, including five in the first two frames.

Seneca

McDonald County swept a doubleheader at Seneca on June 28. Moore shut out Seneca through five innings to lead McDonald County to an 8-3 win. Seneca scored a pair of runs of Moore and Sellers in the sixth on two hits, a walk and two-run error before Sellers allowed a run in the seventh on three hits.

But before Seneca scored, McDonald County had built an 8-0 lead, scoring three runs in the first, one in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Dalton had McDonald County's only hit in the three-run first. Ty Shaver reached on an error and Payne walked before both scored on wild pitches.

Dowd doubled in a run in the fourth before McDonald County broke the game open in the fifth. Shaver, Hanke, Payne keyed the inning with singles. McDonald County's final run came on Shaver's single and an error in the sixth.

McDonald County was held to just five hits, two singles by Shaver, a double by Dowd and singles by Dalton and Payne, but took advantage of five errors and five walks to score its eight runs.

Madewell shut out Seneca without a hit to lead McDonald County to a 12-0 win in the nightcap. The senior right-hander allowed four walks and struck out seven.

McDonald County scored seven runs in the second and added five in the fourth. Brown, Madewell and Shaver had the only three McDonald County hits in the second, but three walks and two errors contributed to the big inning.

In the fourth, Shaver, Dalton, Caleb Curtis had hits while Madewell, Payne, Brett Dalton, Moore and James King reached on bases on balls.

Shaver finished with two hits to lead McDonald County while Madewell, Brown, Moore, Dalton and Curtis all had one each.
