Seventh, Eighth Grades Continue Play

The McDonald County seventh grade dropped three games last week, including a 45-44 loss at East Newton on Jan. 12. Cade Smith scored 16 points and Koby McAlister had 15 to lead the Mustangs. Rounding out the scoring for McDonald County were Taeshaun Alik and Colliar Gottfried with five each and Kevin Martinez with three.

McDonald County won the B game by a 28-4 decision. Martinez led McDonald County with 10 points while Tryston Leach had seven, Garrett Spears and Sam Whitehill four each and Bryan Trejo three.

Neosho defeated McDonald County 39-14 on Jan. 11 in Neosho. Smith scored eight points while Koby McAlister, Keith Walker and Gottfried had two each.

Neosho added a 30-28 win in the B game. Scoring for McDoanld County was follows: Whitehill and Martinez eight each, Trejo four, Spears three, Arturo Garcia and Omar Manuel two each and Carlos Marcos one.

McDonald County closed out the week by dropping a 38-17 decision to Mount Vernon on Jan. 15 in Mount Vernon. Smith's nine points led the Mustangs while Alik had four points, Whitehill three and Kameron Hopkins had one to round out the scoring for the Mustangs.

McDonald County won the B game by a 23-18 score. Leach led the Mustangs with seven points. Rounding out the scoring for McDonald County were Martinez with six points, Manuel four and Garcia, Spears and Whitehill with two each.

Eighth Grade

The McDonald County eighth grade claimed a 45-35 win over East Newton on Jan. 12 at Triway Elementary School in Stella.

Trent Alik scored 15 points and Parker Harris had 10 to lead McDonald County. Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs were Chris Arrowood with seven points, Irael Marcos with six, Jackson Clarkson five and Logan Renner two.

McDonald County added a 20-0 win in two quarters in the B game. Scoring for the Mustangs was as follows: Shadow Keeling with eight points, Austin Manwiller six, Bailey Lewis four and Trayce McCool two.

McDonald County began the week with a 26-24 win over Neosho, outscoring the Wildcats 10-2 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

Harris led the Mustangs with 14 points followed by Marcos and Arrowood with four points each, Alik three, and Clarkson one.

Neosho claimed a 31-25 decision in the B game. Manwiller led the Mustangs with 11 points. McCool and Ethan Francisco added five points each while Keeling and Wade Rickman had two each.

The seventh and eighth grades' next games are set for Jan. 21 against Joplin North at Anderson Middle School and Pineville Elementary School. Games start at 5:30 p.m.
