Selby Junior High Wrestling Champ

Gabriel Selby was the lone champion for the McDonald County Junior High School wrestling team at the Seneca Junior High Wrestling Tournament held Saturday at Seneca High School.

Selby went undefeated (5-0) at 95 pounds, including a pin over Clayton Swadley of Seneca in the championship match.

Taking second for the Mustangs was Junior Eliam with a 3-2 record at 180 pounds. Third places went to Jacob Selby at 100 pounds (4-1) and Brandon Armstrong at 120 pounds (3-2). Other McDonald County results are as follows: Jacob Owens, fourth, 1-3, 85 pounds; Austin Manwiller, fourth, 3-2, 115 pounds; and Ethan Pendergraft, sixth, 2-3, 110 pounds.

Monett won the team title with 170 points with Seneca taking second with 165 points. Joplin North was third with 146 followed by Republic 109, Columbus, Kan. 102.5, Bolivar 91, McDonald County 84, Nevada 72, Cassville 57, Joplin East 36 and Joplin South 22.

Results for McDonald County wrestlers in the B bracket are as follows: Ryan Wilson, third, 1-2, 85 pounds; Justin Smith, fifth, 0-4, 105 pounds; Alexis Pedroza, first, 3-0, 115 pounds; Carson Hoth, third, 1-2, 120 pounds; Anthony O'Leary, sixth, 0-5, 134 pounds; Wyatt Yousey, third, 2-3, 134 pounds; Aidan Groh, second, 4-1, 134 pounds; Bradley Skaggs, fifth, 0-4, 165 pounds; Brianna White, fourth, 0-3, 165 pounds; and Ben McGonigal, fifth, 0-4, 215 pounds.

The tournament marks the end of the season for the junior high school program.
