Terry Cook from the Neosho Missouri Department of Conservation office presented Keith Estes, Fire Chief of Goodman, Mo., with a matching funds grant check in the amount of $3,000 Monday.

The city of Goodman matched the grant funding and was able to purchase needed hoses for the fire trucks.

Jimmie Morgan, president of the board for the Goodman Area Fire Protection District said "we apply for the grants every year and the money goes to where it is needed the most."

Morgan said writing the grant proposals is very tedious and time consuming--he laughed and said, "we could use some professional grant writers."

Chief Estes said there will be an annual appreciation day at the Goodman Area Fire Protection District at 111 East Main St. in Goodman on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. There will be free sandwiches and sodas.

Estes said Goodman residents are invited to stop by to see how their tax levy has improved the Goodman Fire District.
