Track Teams Place High At Meets

Cassadi Dowd won the 800-meter run and Emily High was second in the 1600 and 3200 to lead the McDonald County girls track team to a third place finish at the Cassville Relays held April 19 at Cassville High School.

Dowd was timed in 2:37.0 to beat Chantel Thiel of Seneca by five seconds. High was second to Stephanie Penticuff of Springfield Glendale in both the 1600 and 3200. Penticuff ran a 5:31 in the 1600 to High's 5:48 while winning the 3200 in 12:28 compared to High's 13:00.6.

Dowd and High were also both members of the 4x800 relay (11:49) that was second. The other two members of the relay were Riley Rickman and Ryleigh England. Dowd also ran a leg on the second place 4x400 relay (4:34.44). Other members of that relay were Rickman, Makenzie Stephens and Britiny Calvert.

Jordan Witt added a second in the triple jump (30-10.25) and a third in the long jump (14-7). Chloe Morris was second in the pole vault (7-0) and Calvert was fourth in the 100 (13.49) and fifth in the 200 (27.94).

Rounding out the Lady Mustangs top six finishes were Lindsey Limore, third, shot put, 29-01; Bailey Rickett, fourth, high jump, 4-6; Emily Landers, fifth, javelin, 74-7; and Andrea Creason, sixth, 300 hurdles, 57.26.

Monett won the team race with 95 points followed by Seneca with 92, McDonald County 85, Cassville 75, Pea Ridge 61.5, Aurora 61, Reeds Spring 55 and Glendale 38.5.

Boys Division

The boys were led to a fifth place finish by the 4x800 relay team that won the race in a time of 9:06 to easily outdistance Aurora in second in a time of 9:23. Members of the relay were Jilberto Alejo, Drew Landers, Truman Craig and Cole Cooper.

Cooper added a second place in the pole vault (11-0) while Alejo was fourth in the 400 (54.89), sixth in the 200 (24.04) and ran a leg on the 4x400 relay team that was third in a time of 3:52.47. Other members of the relay were Landers, Christopher Rubio and Alan Aragon.

Elias Gallegos placed in all three throwing events, taking second in the discus (125-1), fourth in the javelin (131-6) and fifth in the shot put (41-4).

Rounding out the top six Mustang finishes were Alex Guadarrama, fourth, 1600, 5:02.53; Zach Woods, third, pole vault, 10-6; Huechi Xiong, fourth, pole vault, 9-6; and Elliott Wolfe, fifth, javelin, 128-6.

Reeds Spring won the boys division with 188 points followed by Cassville with 143, Aurora 79.66, Monett 68.33, McDonald County 59, Glendale 23 and Seneca 20.

McDonald County's next meet was April 26 at Monett. The Mustangs will also compete this week at the Carl Junction Relays on Friday.

Cassville 9/10 Relays

The McDonald County boys were second at the Cassville 9/10 Relays held on April 21. Picking up wins for the Mustangs were Woods in the pole vault, 9-6; Rubio, 800, 2:23.94; Landers, 400, 57.8; and Guadarrama, 1600, 5:22.

Rounding out the top six for McDonald County were Guadarrama, second, 800, 2:25; Grant Abercrombie, second, 3200, 12:06; Wolfe, second, discus, 110-0 and second, javelin, 112-5; and Francisco Jasso, third, discus, 101-0.

Cassville won the boys division with 153 points followed by McDonald County 118, Aurora 79, Hollister 71, Reeds Spring 59 and Aurora 45.

Girls Division

Cassville edged McDonald County 112 to 109 for the girls' title. McDonald County was led by wins from Dowd in the 800 (2:45) and 1600 (6:14.8), Stephens in the 400 (1:08), Samantha Frazier in the pole vault (7-6) and Witt in the long jump (14-8.75).

Rounding out the top three finishes for the Lady Mustangs were Creason, second, 300 hurdles, 56:27 and third, 100 hurdles, 19.67; Breanna Phillips, second, 800, 3:14.49; Witt, second, high jump, 4-4 and second, triple jump, 31-10; and Stephens, third, long jump, 13-6.25.

Taking third place in the team race was Aurora with 60 points followed by Hollister with 45, Monett 44 and Reeds Spring 28.
