Freshmen Pull Of Sweep Of Double-Headers

The McDonald County freshman baseball team swept a pair of doubleheaders last week, beating Carl Junction and Seneca.

Against Carl Junction on April 18, the Mustangs claimed a 14-3 win in the opener before taking the nightcap 4-3 in extra innings.

Izak Johnson pitched an inning and had two strikeouts while Kade Brock went two innings with one strikeout, allowing three runs.

The Mustangs offense was led by Oakley Roessler, Jordan Platter and Joseph Brown with two hits a piece.

In the nightcap, Michael Steeves gave up a run in an inning while Reece Cooper and Platter each gave up one run in three innings of work.

Charlie Moore had two hits to lead the offense.

Seneca

Rendon Lane pitched a three-inning shutout to lead McDonald County to a 10-0 win over the Seneca Indians in the first game of an April 22 doubleheader at MCHS.

Platter had two hits and Johnson had a hit and a walk to key the Mustangs offense.

In game two, Roessler went three innings, allowing three runs, Nolan Baisch went an inning and gave up three runs while Johnson went two shutout innings, to lead McDonald County to a 7-6 win. Micah Burkholder had three hits, including a home run, and Platter had two hits to lead the offense.

McDonald County hosted Mount Vernon on April 25 before traveling to Carl Junction on April 29. The Mustangs begin play in the Big 8 Tournament on April 30 at MCHS.
