Youth Wrestlers Advance To Regional Tournament

Seven members of the McDonald County Youth Wrestling club won district titles Saturday and 19 of the club's 22 wrestlers finished in the top six to qualify for Saturday's regional tournament in Carthage at the Missouri USA District 5 Tournament held Saturday at Neosho High School.

The top four placers in each division and weight class at regionals will move on to the state tournament in St Louis on March 27-29.

Winning district titles for the McDonald County Youth Wrestling Club were:

• 8 and Under -- Ryder Martin, 55 pounds; Trey Hardin, 80 pounds; Tyce Hardin, 160 pounds;

• 10 and Under -- Jayce Hitt, 110 pounds; Sam Murphy, 120 pounds;

• 12 and Under -- Lane Pointer, 205 pounds;

• 14 and Under -- Johann Delacruz, 100 pounds.

Other McDonald county youth wrestlers to qualify for regionals included:

• 8 and Under -- Maddox Feagin, third place, 55 pounds;

• 10 and Under -- Levi Smith, fourth place, 65 pounds; Cross Spencer, second place, 70 pounds; Blaine Ortiz, third place, 80 pounds; Colter Vick, fifth place, 85 pounds; Fischer Sanny, third place, 90 pounds;

• 12 and Under -- Gabriel Selby, sixth place, 80 pounds; Oscar Ortiz, second place, 80 pounds; Jacob Selby, second place, 85 pounds; Fisher King, second place, 95 pounds;

• 14 and Under -- David Lazalde, third place, 95 pounds; Dylan Akins, third place, 175 pounds.

McDonald County took fifth place in the final team standings. Wildcat X-treme (Neosho) took first with 197 points followed by Carthage with 193 points, Monett 150, Seneca 146, McDonald County 142, Carl Junction 114 and Webb City 108.
