MEGAN DAVIS/MCDONALD COUNTY PRESS A new drop box in front of the McDonald County Courthouse is available for taxpayers who are unable to visit the office during normal business hours, but still need to submit forms to the Collector's or Assessor's offices.

Whether personal property or real estate -- every year, each resident must visit the McDonald County Courthouse to calculate and pay their taxes before Dec. 31.

In years past, taxpayers were required to stop by the Assessor's Office and then the Collector's office during those offices' regular business hours to do so. For many residents, this time frame -- 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday -- conflicted with work and they were forced to take time off. Seeing the demand for an alternative solution, County Tax Collector Jennifer Weber began advocating the idea of a drop box for payments.

"City Hall has one, other counties have drop boxes," Weber said. "We just thought it would be something that taxpayers would be able to use and appreciate."

Now, taxes or merchant licenses for the collector and assessment sheets for the assessor can be deposited after hours into the drop box situated in front of the two offices. It is emptied daily.

Court fines are not collected via drop box and must still be paid in person to the clerk or online at www.missouripayments.com.
