East Newton Snaps Eighth-Grade Unbeaten String

East Newton broke the McDonald County eighth-grade's unbeaten string at four Jan. 13 by handing the young Mustangs a 39-32 loss.

Shiloh Jackson led McDonald County with 12 points while Cooper Reece had seven. Rounding out the scoring were Joseph Brown with five points, Izak Johnson four, Chris Monsalvo two and Charley Moore two.

McDonald County won the B game 25-13 behind eight points from Reece Cooper and six each from Zack Woods and Will Gordon. Rounding out the scoring were Micah Burkholder and Dillon Aubrey with two each and Francisco Jasso with one.

Mount Vernon

McDonald County rebounded after its first loss with a 36-16 win Jan. 16 over Mount Vernon to improve to 5-1. Brown scored nine points and Boston Dowd had eight to lead McDonald County. Others scoring were Moore with seven and Reece and Jackson with six each.

The McDonald County B team improved to 3-1 with a 19-10 win. Burkholder and Cooper each scored four points to lead McDonald County. Others scoring were Kirby Townsend with three points, Woods, Aubrey, Gordon and Oakley Roessler with two each.

Neosho

McDonald County defeated Neosho 46-25 Jan. 12 behind 13 points each from Reece and Jackson for its fourth win in a row to start the season. Dowd added eight points while Brown and Moore had four each and Monsalvo and Roessler had two each.

The B team dropped a 45-26 decision. Burkholder scored 10 points for McDonald County while Aubrey and Jasso had five each. Rounding out the scoring were Brown, Roessler and Townsend with two each.
