Truth In The Word

This Sunday, as every Lord's day, is special. This one was made a little more special by the raising of our first American flag to fly in the yard of our church. We've always given honor to the flag in our service by saying the pledge to our country's flag.

We now have Old Glory flying because of a gift given by Sister Tresa O'Brien. This flag belonged to her father who served in the U.S. Navy. Harold Neal served with pride and also gave his service to the Lord. He was pastor in several churches in the Oklahoma area. We thank him for his love of God and country as he rests in the arms of our Lord.

The worship this morning was led by Brother Carl Wayne Cartwright. The first song was a Birthday Blessing for Sister Linda Gardner and Sister Brandy Crosby. May they have many more is our prayer. We then joined in a song with the wonderful words "How Great is Our God." What an awesome realization that He is so very Great and always in our hearts.

We were then blessed by a visiting Brother who talked to us about Truth in the Word. Brother Dale Honeycutt is no stranger; we have been in many services with this precious man. You know, trust is a very hard thing to obtain. It is so very hard to completely trust those around us.

In Jeremiah 29:11, we read the words given to Jeremiah. He was told that God knows the thoughts that are given toward Jeremiah. Thoughts of peace, not evil, gives you an expected end. What was God thinking when he spoke? All he conveyed to him was that what was known and unknown about God and his truth is given to Jeremiah. Everyone who believes and hears the instruction of our Lord has the promise of eternal life with Him. Remember Jesus was the lamb that was slain for our sins. Genesis 3:15 tells how Adam and Eve lost their connection to God by turning to the pleasures that satisfy the flesh not the soul. John 18:37 gives us the truth of how to reconnect and be restored. He came to this world to bear witness unto the truth and all who hear his voice will follow Him. Romans 8:1-2 reminds us that because of the cross there is now no condemnation to them which are in Jesus Christ; they will walk after the spirit not the flesh. John 8:32 gives us the assurance that the truth will set you free. Hebrews 4:14 warns that we should hold fast the faith that is within us. Look at the life of Noah. He built an ark but had never seen rain. Because of his faith, he and members of his family were spared from the death of the flood.

In closing, we heard of another man of faith, Job. He lost every material possession he owned and even family, but never did he turn from the truth of God. In the end, he had more than what he lost. This is the way our maker looks out for us. We may be tried, but we will, with him, be victorious. Matthew 6:33 explains it all. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. So we would ask you to choose this day whom you will serve.

Have a blessed week, and you are always welcome at the Cove Mission of Hope, where the truth is spoken.
