Intersection, Stream Bank Erosion Topics For County Commission

The McDonald County Commission discussed plans for the intersection of Larry Neff Drive and U.S. Highway 71 in Jane at a commission meeting earlier this month.

Missouri Department of Transportation representatives Steven Sheldon, Laurel McKean, and Jason Stewart were present as well as state Rep. Bill Lant and McDonald County Prosecuting Attorney Bill Dobbs. All were in agreement that an impact study should be conducted and property owners on the west side of the intersection contacted.

The commission met with Jeff Simpson, one of the landowners on the west side of the highway, later the same day to discuss the flood plain and intersection. Simpson said he was going to gather more research.

Representatives from Great River Engineering, Jeff Banderet and Jerany Jackson, and property owners Dick and Bev Snyder and Robert E. Jordan met with the commission to discuss the Oscar Talley Bridge project in Anderson. An agreement was made for temporary construction and a perpetual easement.

A week later, the Commission met with Natural Resource Conservation Service representatives Michael Malone and John Feistner to discuss site notes for three locations in McDonald County that are in need of stream bank stabilization. The sites sampled were Little Sugar Creek at Ponderosa Road in Pineville, Elk River tributary at Langley Road in Anderson, and Big Sugar Creek at Buzzard Glory Road in Washburn.

Presiding Commissioner Keith Lindquist opened the floor to Malone to discuss the notes and procedures with potential contractors. Also in attendance was NCRS representative Nathan Witt, Granger Dirtworks representative Chad Granger, and county Road and Bridge Foreman Jerry Mullins.

An additional site showing was scheduled to take place at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 17 at Big Sugar Creek on Catalpa Road, which is the extreme southeast corner of the county.

• Jeff Meadows, of Larson Farm and Lawn Supply, delivered paperwork for the purchase of a tractor for the Road and Bridge Department.

• Eastern Commissioner John Bunch called for the commission to direct Joye Helm, county treasurer, to transfer budgeted money from the General Fund as follows: $31,000 to Assessment, $23,000 to Health, and $52,000 to Law Enforcement. The motion passed unanimously.
