Missouri State To Offer Classes At Crowder McDonald County

This fall Missouri State University will begin offering courses at Crowder College's McDonald County campus in Jane, leading to a Bachelor of Science in elementary education. The program is a cooperative effort between Missouri State and Crowder College.

Students who complete an Associate of Arts in Teaching from Crowder will be able to transfer to Missouri State and complete a four-year degree by taking their upper-division coursework in McDonald County.

The elementary education degree allows students to become certified to teach grades one through five. It also includes courses in middle school education, allowing for certification in two subjects for grades five through nine. Students will be able to complete student teaching and other in-school practicum experiences within the local area.

Larry Nichols, Missouri State's outreach coordinator, said the McDonald County program is an expansion of the successful partnership between Crowder and Missouri State. Through that partnership, Missouri State has offered the same degree at Crowder's Neosho, Nevada and Cassville campuses, as well as bachelor's completion programs in social work, business, agriculture and nursing at various Crowder sites.

"These programs give students the opportunity to complete their education without having to relocate or commute, allowing them to finish a two-year degree from Crowder, then seamlessly transfer to Missouri State and complete a four-year degree, all while remaining at their local Crowder campus," Nichols said.

Students who have not attended Crowder previously are eligible to start the Missouri State program if they have completed all prerequisites. All necessary lower-division courses are available from Crowder College.

Missouri State's fall classes begin Aug. 18.
