Berry Festival To Include Night 5K

Runners and walkers will be lighting up the streets of Anderson soon.

The first ever Berry Glow 5K Nite Run and Walk is set to kick off at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 9.

The family-focused event will feature runners and walkers racing through the streets of town wearing glow necklaces, bracelets and other glow-in-the-dark items.

The route for the run will follow the popular Winterfest 5K course that winds its way through the streets of town, out Canning Factory Road and back again. Expect to see lots of glow-in-the-dark paint on the streets as well as other lighted features along the route.

The first 75 entrants get a goody bag filled with all kinds of great items and a free T-shirt.

People who want to sign up can do so online at www.register-wizard.com or by picking up an application at Community Bank and Trust, Rags to Riches Flea Market or Farmers Insurance in Anderson. You can also download a form from the Anderson Betterment Club's website at www.andersonbetterment.org. Cost is $15 before the day of the event and $20 the day of the race.

Registration and packet pickup will be available beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 9, at Anderson City Hall. The race starts at 9 p.m. with a finish line festival and awards ceremony following the run.

The Berry Glow 5K Nite Run and Walk is part of the Anderson Berry Festival, which starts the next morning with a street fair featuring arts and craft booths, retail and food vendors, a donut eating contest, kids pageant and live music throughout the day.
