Students in the McDonald County High School FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) program recently traveled to Columbia, Mo. for the spring FCCLA State Leadership Conference.
Students attended leadership workshops on teamwork, anti-bullying, hunger relief, parenting stresses and responsibility, values, safe driving and autism. Motivational speaker, Eddie Slowikowski, provided students with a real-life prospective on leadership and going the extra mile, while keeping them entertained with decades of dance moves.
After leaving the conference on Tuesday, the FCCLA group stopped in at the state Capitol in Jefferson City to meet and visit with Rep. Bill Lant and toured the Capitol building. Students witnessed lawmakers debating a bill on the House floor that would legalize educators and administrators who have a conceal-and-carry license to be able to have weapons in their possession at school for the protection of students. They also toured the building and the museum. Lant was thrilled to talk to the students and gracious in his help to make the visit educational and enjoyable.
