July 3rd Celebration Set In Powell

NEW THIS YEAR: SPECIAL AREA FOR THE KIDS

The third annual Independence Day Celebration at Powell will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at the Hill and Hollow grounds of the Brumley Publishing Co.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Shady GroveBluegrass and Canaan Bound. Hot dogs, chips, nachos, popcorn and soft pretzels will be provided by Meadors’ 4M Service Station. Watermelon, soda and homemade cookies will be included free with each meal purchased.

New this year is a special area with the kids in mind - kid-sized games and activities with adult supervision. Free sparklers and hayrides to the Historic Powell Bridge will also add to the fun of all.

All attendees will have the opportunity to purchase raffe tickets to win an iron elk welcome sign designed by artist Diane Evans of Wheaton. The winning ticket will be drawn at the Powell Historical Preservation Society’s ham and bean feed to be held Saturday, Sept. 18.

The evening will culminate with a spectacular display of fireworks, courtesy of Bob and Tudy Brumley, Keepers of the Bridge.

This Independence DayCelebration will offer a chance to visit with friends, sample good food, listen to great music and watch wonderful fireworks in a family friendly environment - alcohol and drug free. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for your comfort.
