Noel Woman’s Club Held August Meeting

The Noel Woman's Club meeting was called to order on Aug. 9 by president Melissa Lance. After reciting the pledge of allegiance and the Lord's Prayer, roll call was taken with eight members and two guests present. Minutes were read and approved by secretary Vicki Barth. Bonnie Leonard gave the treasurer's report.

Post Office box rent was paid, along with scholarships and flowers. Bonnie had a question about the post office box rent and will check on that. The club received two checks from "Rags to Riches" and continues to do well at this flea market.

The club voted to raise the amount it spends on flowers for members and their families. Joyce Britton made the motion, and Linda Jefferson the second.

Announcements were made concerning various functions in the community. Birthdays this month are Faye Davis and Jo Pearcy, who will be a young 94 years old. Happy birthday, ladies!

The club welcomed Carrie Cearley as a visitor and, hopefully, a new member of the club. Thank you to Joyce Britton for inviting her.

The program this month was given by Kitty Collingsworth. Kitty gave a brief history of Dave's Supermarket in Southwest City, which she and her husband Dave operate. They bought it back in the 1980s from the Nichols Family, which had owned and operated the store for generations. Kitty has a floral shop in the store, so she demonstrated making floral arrangements. One was a beautiful sunflower and rose vase, and the other was a basket of mixed florals -- both were beautiful. Kitty very graciously gave them away to two lucky members. Thank you, Kitty; it was an enjoyable evening!

The hostess for the evening was Bonnie Leonard, who served her famous spaghetti, along with salad and dessert. It was delicious, thank you, Bonnie.

The club's next meeting will be on Sept. 13, and the hostess will be Faye Davis. The program will be by the McDonald County Historical Society. It should be a lot of fun, so all are invited. For more information, please contact Melissa Lance at 417-455-6674.
