PINEVILLE -- McDonald County High School will host its annual open house event Thursday, Aug. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a new theme --"Our students are a work of heART."

Angie Brewer, MCHS principal, said the theme this year was chosen to demonstrate to students that they're more than just students to MCHS faculty and staff, they're a part of the team's lives.

Brewer said, in addition to prioritizing making the students feel welcomed and valued, the theme should encourage and motivate the students to be creative thinkers and problem solvers both in school and outside of the classroom. Brewer said she worked in conjunction with MCHS librarian Jill Williams to decide on this year's theme.

"We want the students to be excited to come to school," Brewer said. "We want them to look forward to the year, a new year with new hope and new possibilities."

The event, which will allow students and student families to meet instructors and visit their classrooms, will also offer art-themed games and foods.

"We will have famous artists roaming the hallways doing sketches of families, interpretive portraits, graffiti, and more," Brewer said. "We will also have color pallet cookies and other artist-approved snacks in the cafeteria."

Brewer said the event could be a fun outing for families, enjoying one of the final nights of summer family fun before the start of a new school year. Brewer said parents should be involved in their child's schooling, and the open house events allow parents to "put a name to a face" when regarding student teachers.

Brewer said all schools in the county are hosting open house events, and she encourages parents and students to take advantage of everything the schools have to offer during their various open house events.
