Young Cross Country Team Shows Promise

The McDonald County High School cross country team opened its 2020 season at the Seneca Invitational held on Sept. 10 in Seneca.

Sophomore Melysia McCrory led McDonald County's results by taking 24th in the girls' race. The top 25 runners in the boys' and girls' races earned a medal.

Other results in the girls' race for McDonald County were Madison Burton in 32nd place in a time of 24:32 and Anna Belle Price in 40th place in a time of 25:37.

Kierstan Potter of Lamar won the girls' race in a time of 19:33.

Lane Pratt led the McDonald County boys' team by taking 30th in a time of 19:37. Rounding out the Mustang results were Tyler Rothrock, 48th, 21:49; Cross Spencer, 53rd, 22:34; and Ayden Ball, 58th, 24:42.

Kaden Cole of Neosho won the boys' race in a time of 16:21.

"All the kids ran a great race," said coach Ashleigh McFarland. "It's fun to see what they can do for the first real meet. We still have plenty of work to do, but a fantastic start for this young team."
