Junior High Baseball Opens Season with Win

The McDonald County junior high baseball team opened its season last week by winning the Wyandotte Junior High Baseball Festival.

The Mustangs went 3-0 in the tournament, including a 9-3 win over Commerce in the tournament opener played at MCHS on March 12 due to wet grounds in Wyandotte.

Destyn Dowd got the win on the mound for McDonald County, allowing one hit while striking out eight in three innings. Lane Pratt pitched the final inning, striking out two without allowing a hit.

Dowd added a hit and drove in two runs to lead the offense. Tucker Walters, Cooper Sprenkle, Kaidan Land and Alex Jones added one hit each.

McDonald County swept a doubleheader on March 13 in Fairland to win the championship.

Walters threw a complete game to lead McDonald County to an 8-1 win over Quapaw in the first game. Walters allowed just one hit while striking out 10 and walking five.

Sprenkle had two hits to lead the Mustangs, while Walters, Dowd and Rylan Armstrong had one each.

Sprenkle pitched three innings of no-hit baseball to lead McDonald County to a 7-0 win over Fairland in the final game. Adrian Silvester pitched a hitless final inning.

Walters and Pratt had two hits each to key the offense. Land, Dowd and Armstrong chipped in with one hit each.

McDonald County will take its 3-0 record to Grove on March 27.
