16U Basball Breaks Tie, Scores Win

The McDonald County 16U baseball team broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning by scoring three runs and then went on to claim a 15-5 win on June 30 over Carl Junction in the final game of the 8-on-8 league at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin.

Destyn Dowd reached on an error to start the fifth-inning rally. Weston Gordon and Isaac Behm followed with singles before two runs scored on an error. Fisher Sanny drove in the third run of the inning with a single.

McDonald County scored a pair of runs in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Dowd, Behm and Braxton Spears all had two-out singles to key the inning.

After taking a 5-2 lead in the fifth, McDonald County added two runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings and then sealed the win with four runs in the 10th.

In the sixth, Lane Pratt and Cooper Sprenkle opened the inning with singles before Devin Stone drove in both runners with a single.

Jack Parnell, Gordon and Behm singled in the seventh for one run before a Carl Junction error allowed another to score.

Singles by Stone and Cross Dowd and a two-run single by Parnell in the ninth put McDonald County up 11-4 heading into the 10th.

Behm, Spears, Jake Goswick, Jakob Gordon, Pratt, Stone, Rylan Armstrong and Kody Owens all had hits in McDonald County's four-run 10th inning.

McDonald County pounded out a season-high 26 hits in the win, led by Behm with four singles and Weston Gordon and Stone with three each. Parnell, Spears, Goswick, Jakob Gordon and Pratt finished with two hits each, while Cross Dowd, Destyn Dowd, Sanny, Sprenkle, Armstrong and Owens all had one.

McDonald County's next action is at Carthage on July 15, beginning at 5 p.m. with a seven-inning game, followed by a five-inning nightcap.
