Junior High Boys Win Openers

The McDonald County seventh and eighth-grade boys' basketball teams opened the season on a high note with both teams winning their openers against Lamar on Jan. 9 at home.

In the eighth-grade game, McDonald County jumped out to a 22-10 lead at halftime and cruised to a 51-26 win.

Destyn Dowd scored 21 points to lead McDonald County. Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs were Tucker Walters and Josh Pacheco with eight points each, Toby Moore with six, Rylan Armstrong and Sam Barton three each and Luke Jones two.

In the B game, McDonald County claimed a 32-11 win.

Jordan Scholz led McDonald County with seven points, followed by Jayce Hitt and Alex Jones with six points each, David Lira, Cooper Sprenkle and Luke Jones with four each and Huston Porter with one.

Seventh Grade

McDonald County added a 38-31 win in the seventh-grade game behind 27 points from Holten Keith. Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs were Randall Bice with five points, Angel Moreno with four and Trey Hardin with two.

Lamar avoided a sweep with a 42-25 win in the B game.

Scoring for McDonald County was as follows: Adrian Silvester eight, Peyton O'Neill five, Braden Thomas and Johnny Miller four each, Anthony D'Amico three and Logan Myrick one.

McDonald County was at Nevada on Jan. 13 and at East Newton on Jan. 14 before traveling to Mount Vernon on Jan. 17.
