Pineville Marshal Chris Owens reported not much unusual going on over the past year, although his office has responded to a lot of accidents.

He said the marshal's office has responded to a lot of wrecks on Interstate 49 between the 6.6- and 6.8-mile markers every time it rains. People tend to hydroplane in that area, and he is not sure why, he said.

In the past year, the department acquired a 2007 Ford F150, which has been used for patrol and emergency calls and rescues on the river, Owens said. It is running well but has a lot of miles on it, and he is hoping to hear something soon on a new vehicle to replace that one as well as the Chevrolet Tahoe that he drives, which also has a lot of miles on it. If they cannot be replaced soon, they are both running well, he said.

The marshal's office also got two new basketball hoops this year for local kids to play basketball. Owens said a lot of the local kids had mentioned that they did not have a place to play basketball, and when the fire station was built, a pad was put in place along with hoops. The old hoops got worn out, and so the marshal's office purchased new ones this year. They have not been installed yet.

Owens has been the marshal for four years. He said the part of his job he most enjoys most is being around people. He spends a lot of time at the schools in the mornings, he added.
