The Lanagan Police Department got some new patrol units for itself and others to give away through a federal program over the last year.

According to Police Chief C. Creekmore, the department acquired the vehicles through a program of the U.S. Air Force that gives away surplus vehicles. They applied and were selected among other departments across the U.S. Then it was a matter of driving to various locations around the country to pick up the vehicles.

Creekmore said they received a 2010 Ford Escape, two 2007 Ford F150 four-wheel drives, a Ford F350 and a 2010 Chevy Impala. They gave the Ford F350 to the Northern Missouri Drug Task Force and gave one of the Ford F150s to the Pineville Marshal's Office and kept the other one. He said the four-wheel drive is good to have during the winter with all the hills in the area.

To pick up the F150s, they traveled to Minot, N.D. The Impala was waiting for them at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas. The department also received a four-wheeler through the same program, for which they traveled to Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri.
