Boys Cross Country Places Sixth At Nixa Invitational

Garrett Spears finished in 11th place and David Lazalde was 21st to lead the McDonald County High School boys' cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the Nixa Invitational Cross Country Meet held on Sept. 26 at Nixa High School.

Spears finished the 3.1-mile course in a time of 17:24.9. Lazalde was timed in 18:00.8.

Kolin Overstreet of Lamar won the boys' race in a time of 16:11.0. A total of 120 runners finished the race.

Rounding out the results for McDonald County were Jackson Behm, 52nd, 19:16.6; Isaac Behm, 71st, 20:12.6; Levi Smith, 92nd, 21:00.8; Hunter Leach, 101st, 21:38.9; and Tyler Moritz, 103rd, 21:49.5.

Carthage won the team title with 40 points, followed by Lamar with 93, Branson 94. Nixa 108, Ozark 130, McDonald County 193, Monett 197, Mount Vernon 223, Reeds Spring 241, Parkview 250, Republic 262 and Harrison 318.

Girls

Bailey Miller's 23rd place led the McDonald County girls' team to an eighth-place finish. Miller was timed in 22:12.1.

Kiersten Potter of Lamar led the 81 girls and finished in a time of 19:05.4.

Mellissa McCrory was second for the Lady Mustangs, finishing 43rd in a time of 23:43.9. She was followed by Addy Mick, 46th, 23:52.8; Anna Price, 47th, 23:56.6; Ragan Wilson, 51st, 24:38.2; and Haley Walczak, 81st, 35:50.4.

Carthage also won the girls' title, edging Nixa 74 to 80. Ozark was third with 105 points, followed by Branson 125, Lamar 156, Parkview 175, Republic 176, McDonald County 201, Hollister 212, Monett 231, Buffalo 237, Springfield Catholic 244 and Mountain Grove 269.

Junior Varsity

Leading the way for the McDonald County junior varsity boys in a 2.0-mile race was Cross Spencer in 65th place in a time of 16:50.4.

Justin Smith was next for the Mustangs in 76th place in a time of 17:24.4, followed by Ryan Donica, 89th, 18:23.4; Garrett Anderson, 90th, 18:29.6; Jaxon Harrell, 92nd, 18:57.6; Andres Gonzalez, 97th, 19:35.4; and Matthew McCall, 100th, 19:49.9.

Carthage's Chase Andrews won the junior varsity race in a time of 13:10.4.

McDonald County's next meet was set for Oct. 1 in Lamar. The Mustangs are at East Newton High School on Oct. 5.
