McDonald County 16U Baseball Claims Win in Nightcap

After playing to a 2-2 tie in the first game of a doubleheader on June 26, the McDonald County 16U baseball team came back to claim a 2-0 win in the nightcap.

Braxton Spears pitched four innings to get the win before Destyn Dowd got the save with an inning of shutout relief.

Jacob Gordon singled in both of McDonald County's runs to lead the offense. Isaac Behm singled and scored one of those runs for the only other McDonald County hit.

In the opener, Carthage scored two runs in the seventh to tie before the game was called after eight innings with the scored tied 2-2.

Cross Dowd pitched the first six innings, and Weston Gordon worked the final two innings.

Colton Ruddick had two hits and drove in both of McDonald County runs. Destyn Dowd and Cross Dowd both had one hit each.

Nevada

McDonald County split a doubleheader on June 25 in Nevada.

McDonald County won the opener, 14-3, behind Behm's two-hit complete game.

Behm also led the offense, collecting four hits and two RBIs. Destyn Dowd and Spears added three hits each. Cross Dowd had two hits and Weston Gordon, Jacob Gordon, Danny Grider and Ruddick had one hit each.

Nevada earned a split with a 6-5 win in the nightcap.

Wyatt Yousey took the loss, working two and a third innings before Jack Parnell pitched the final inning and two-thirds.

Cross Dowd, Weston Gordon and Jacob Gordon had the only three hits for McDonald County.

McDonald County closes out its season with a tournament on July 5-6 in Springfield.
