Goals were hard to come by in the McDonald County High School boys' soccer team's scrimmages against Aurora and Cassville -- not only for McDonald County, but for both of its opponents.

The annual soccer jamboree was held Aug. 27 at MCHS.

McDonald County and Aurora battled through a 35-minute scrimmage without either team coming up with a score.

But in its second match of the night, McDonald County's Eh Doh Say worked some of his magic to score the goal of the night in the ninth minute in the Mustangs' 1-0 win over Cassville.

Say was well covered in front of the Cassville goal when he collected a loose ball, but the senior managed to work free for enough space to be able to get his winning shot off from about 25 yards.

Say's shot was one of only three the Mustangs were able to get against their Big 8 opponent.

"It's good to come out and get some minutes against other teams," said coach John DelaTorre. "It's not ideal that we only get 35 minutes in each match, but between the two games we get to look at just about everybody. We get to see what we need to fix and what we need to work on going into the season. It's good to get some actual game-time against someone other than ourselves. I thought we played with a lot of energy. We have a lot of starters back and some young guys that will pick up the slack from the players we lost. We have a lot of depth. Our junior varsity will be very strong this year. We have a lot of freshman who came in and they will mix with some of the upperclassmen who will play some junior varsity and some varsity."

McDonald County opens its season next week at the 2019 Cassville Classic Soccer Tournament.

The Mustangs play New Covenant Academy at 5:30 on Sept. 3 and Fair Grove at 4 p.m. on Sept. 5 in pool play. Championship games are set for Sept. 7.
