Jr. High Boys Baseball Off To A Great Season

Cross Dowd pitched a three-hitter and drove in the winning run to lead the McDonald County eighth-grade baseball team to a 2-1 win over Neosho on April 4 at McDonald County High School.

Dowd struck out seven and walked one to get the win.

Braxton spears led off the fifth inning with a walk. Jack Parnell bunted him to second before Isaac Behm singled and Weston Gordon got hit by a pitch to load the bases. Dowd then singled to drive in Spears with the winning run.

Parnell, Behm, Cross Dowd, Jacob Gordon and Coty Dumond each had a hit to lead the Mustang offense.

The win gives the eighth-graders a 3-0 record on the season.

The seventh grade dropped a 10-0 decision for its first loss after two wins.

Tucker Walters took the loss. Walters, Destyn Dowd and Rylan Armstrong each had a hit for McDonald County.

Monett

The eighth grade had another exciting finish in its 4-3 win over Monett on April 2.

McDonald County led 4-3 in the fifth with two out when a relay from Parnell to Dowd to Jacob Gordon cut down the potential tying run at the plate to end the game.

Weston Gordon got the win, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out three.

Behm was three for three, while Cross Dowd and Parnell had two hits each and Weston Gordon and Blaine Ortiz had one each.

The seventh grades made it a sweep with a 9-1 win, scoring all of their runs in the fifth inning.

Destyn Dowd got the win, allowing one run on four hits while walking six and striking out eight. Walters worked the final inning, allowing one hit, one walk while striking out one.

Destyn Dowd had two hits and two RBIs. Walters, Armstrong, Jayden Hooper, Devin Stone, Alex Jones and Lane Pratt all had one hit.
