The McDonald County junior high football teams split a pair of games against Monett on Oct. 4 at MCHS.
The eighth grade claimed a 12-0 win behind two touchdown passes by Cross Dowd.
Dowd hit Jack Parnell for a 45-yard touchdown before connecting with Weston Gordon from 11 yards out.
In the seventh-grade game, McDonald County fell, 28-12, to Monett.
Destyn Dowd scored both of McDonald County's touchdowns, the first from 28 yards out and the second on a 36-yard run.
McDonald County hosts Nevada on Oct. 11. Kickoff in the seventh-grade game is at 5:30 p.m.
Melysia McCrory took fifth place in the junior high girls' division at the Cassville Cross County Invitational held Oct. 4 in Cassville.
McCrory finished in 10:48 to lead teammates Annabelle Price, 18th, 11:30; Makenzie Haneline, 28th, 12:22; Haley Walczak, 43rd, 14:50; Jaslyn Billups-Wright, 45th, 14:58; and Kaidence Willis, 50th, 15:48.
Kiersten Potter of Lamar won the race in a time of 9:37. Cassville won the team title with 49 points, followed by Southwest 51, Pea Ridge 65, East Newton 95, McDonald County 112 and Monett 130.
The McDonald County junior high boys took third, led by Isaac Behm's 10th place. Behm finished in 9:47, followed by Levi Smith, 17th, 9:55; Hunter Leach, 21st, 10:13; Caleb Garvin, 29th, 10:53; Gunner Cooper, 33rd, 11:01; Cross Spencer, 35th, 11:05; Tucker Walters, 40th, 11:45; Carson Brock, 42nd, 11:56; Coty Dumond, 43rd, 11:57; Mark Wilson, 46th, 12:13; and Dylan Ferdig, 56th, 14:06.
Jacob Martinez of Monett won the race in 9:16. Southwest won the team championship with 52 points, followed by Lamar with 63, McDonald County 78, Cassville 85, East Newton 93 and Wheaton 114.
The McDonald County eighth-grade volleyball team took fourth place at the Big 8 Conference Junior High Volleyball Championships held on Oct. 6.
The Lady Mustangs opened with a 25-20, 25-13 win over Cassville before falling 25-17, 25-22 to Lamar and 25-17, 25-22 to Nevada.Sports on 10/11/2018
