MCHS Cross Country Makes A Good Showing

Garrett Spears led the McDonald County High School cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the Nevada Cross Country Invitational held Sept. 29 in Nevada.

Spears finished in 11th place in a time of 17:30, while teammates Jackson Behm and Bryce Berryhill also cracked the top 20. Behm was 17th in 18:03, and Berryhill was 18th in 18:04.

Rounding out the McDonald County results were Tyler Moritz, 61st, 21:25; Eli Jackson, 62nd, 21:34; Justin Smith, 63rd, 21:36; Garrett Anderson, 71st, 22:25; Ryan King, 74th, 22:42; and Matthew McCall, 91st, 29:17.

Freshman Daelen Ackley of El Dorado Springs won the boys' race in a time of 16:13.

Neosho claimed the boys' team title, with El Dorado Springs in second followed by Willard, Liberal, Nevada, McDonald County, McAuley Catholic and Butler.

Girls' Division

Kalyn Stetina led the Lady Mustangs with an eighth-place finish (22:01), while teammate Natalie Staib also finished in the top 10, taking 10th in 22:09.

Brooklyn Winters was next for McDonald County, taking 20th in 23:16, while Addy Mick was 27th in 23:57 to round out the Lady Mustang results.

Calli Beshore was the girls' winner with a time of 18:52.

McDonald County did not field a full girls' team, so it wasn't a factor in the team competition. Nevada won the girls' team title, followed by El Dorado Springs, Liberal, Willard and Butler.

McDonald County's next race is at Cassville on Oct. 4. Starting time was not yet determined.
