McDonald County Takes Win Over Carl Junction

Lee Sohse pitched a two-hit shutout on May 27 to lead the McDonald County 16U baseball team to a 6-0 win over Carl Junction and give McDonald County a 2-2 record in the Carl Junction 16U Baseball Tournament.

Sohse, a freshman-to-be at MCHS, struck out seven and walked two.

McDonald County broke a scoreless tie in the fifth by scoring a run on two walks, a stolen base and a Carl Junction error. McDonald County broke the game open in the sixth with five runs on five hits, including a two-run double by Josh Parsons.

Junior Eliam and Sohse had two hits each to lead McDonald County, while Parsons, Sampson Boles, Bo Leach, Brandon Armstrong and Colton Ruddick had one each.

Glendale

McDonald County opened the tournament by dropping a 9-5 decision to Springfield Glendale on May 25.

Ethan Francisco went the distance for the loss, allowing nine runs on nine hits.

Boles had three hits, while Sohse and Cole Martin had two each to lead McDonald County. Matthew Mora and Ruddick each added one hit.

Neosho

Boles pitched a four-hitter and struck out 10 to lead McDonald County to a 10-4 win on May 26 over Neosho.

Martin and Leach both had two doubles, while Eliam had a double and a single, and Boles and Mora had two singles each, to lead the offense.

Cory Creason, Armstrong and Parsons added a hit each.

Catholic

Springfield Catholic scored seven runs in the fourth inning to key a 10-4 win over McDonald County in the second game of a May 26 doubleheader.

Leach started and went two and two-thirds innings before Armstrong worked the final four and a third innings.

Martin and Boles had two hits each to lead McDonald County, while Creason, Leach, Eliam, Wyatt Jordan, Ethan Lett and Parsons had one hit each.

McDonald County hosted Carl Junction on May 29 before the Travelers come to town on May 31. Game time is 6 p.m.
