SWC approves property sale procedure, building permit fees

Southwest City's board of aldermen gathered for a special meeting on Monday, Aug. 6, to discuss two proposed ordinances.

The first, Ordinance No. 603, authorizes the sale of real city property within the city limits. It also requires the city council to accept and approve one bid per property location. The mayor and city clerk are authorized and directed to implement all forms and signatures required for the transfer of property.

The second, Ordinance No. 604, establishes a new fee schedule for the issuance of building permits in the city. It prohibits any building, remodeling, digging or other excavating without first obtaining a building permit from a designated official. It also requires that appropriate fees be paid before a permit is issued.

Each permit fee covers the cost of five inspections -- from the footing before pours to the final inspection. There will be an additional cost for any re-inspections that may occur.

The proposed permit fee schedule covers fences, decks, attached and detached garages, and demolitions, among other things.

Council members voted to approve and instate both ordinances.
