With competition stronger than at a state track meet, the McDonald County High School boys' and girls' track teams failed to score at separate meets held last week in Springfield.

With over 30 teams at both meets, including teams from Kansas City to Jefferson City to Columbia, even personal bests by several McDonald County athletes weren't good enough to top the crack-eight scoring places.

Winning the girls' meet on April 5 was Springfield Kickapoo with Camdenton in second and Blue Springs in third.

Jefferson City Helias won the boys' meet with Carl Junction in second and Rockwood Summit in third.

Leading the girls' effort was Caitlyn Barton, who just missed scoring by tying for ninth in the pole vault by clearing 8-6.

Other Lady Mustang top 20 finishes included Ruby Palomo, 16th, 100 hurdles, 17.5; Chloe Teague, tied for 18th, pole vault, 8-0; Ragan Wilson, 19th, 800, 2:38.15; and, Wilson, Adyson Sanny, Cassadi Dowd and Addy Mick, 12th, 4x800 relay, 10:53.23 and 19th, 4x400 relay, 4:37.08.

Boys' Results

Zack Woods also finished in a tie for ninth in the pole vault to lead the boys' team. Woods cleared 12-0 while teammate Heuchi Xiong cleared 11-0 to tie for 15th.

Peyton Barton finished in 14th place in the discus with a throw of 131-11, missing eighth place by less than three feet. Teammate Elliott Wolfe had a throw of 128-8 to take 20th and added a toss of 44-10 in the shot put to take 15th.

Rounding out McDonald County's top 20 finishes were Corbin Jones, 18th, 100, 11.9; Elijah Habert, 19th, 800, 2:10.77; Cale Adamson, Garrett Spears, Alex Guadarrama and Habert, 13th, 4x800 relay, 8:51.17; and John Howard, Logan Renner, Adamson and Habert, 17th, 4x400 relay, 3:59.86.

McDonald County's next meet is the East Newton Invitational on April 12 at East Newton High School.
