Golfer Play In Neosho Kick-Off

The McDonald County High School golf team opened its 2017 season at Neosho Kick-Off Tournament held March 23 at Neosho Golf Course.

The unique tournament includes individual, best ball and scramble competitions in order to calculate a team score. The Mustangs competed only in the best ball and scramble, so they recorded no team score.

In the best ball, Tim Shields and Walker Keith teamed up to shoot a 106 over the par 71 layout. The team of Matt Wilson and Tyler Keeler from Purdy shot a 73 to win the best ball.

McDonald County's Jeremiah Groff and Payton McKee combined to shoot a 95 in the two-man scramble. The scramble was won by Jacob Hammontree and Johnathon Portwood of Nevada with a 68.

Dylan Garner of Cassville fired a 75 to win individual honors.

Nevada claimed the team title with a 300, 33 strokes ahead of second place Cassville.

McDonald County's next match is set for March 30 at the Joplin Invitational.
