Mayor's Comment -- Noel is a city lying along the beautiful Elk River and surrounded by the Ozark Mountains.

Noel is recognized for its Christmas-themed name and each year, tens of thousands of Christmas cards and letters are sent to the Noel Post Office during the holiday season to be stamped with a pictorial stamp reading, "Seasons Greetings from Noel, Mo., Christmas City USA." This practice was created in 1932 and became a stamping tradition by Postmaster Ed Roussellot, later becoming popular in the late 1940s when Kate Smith, a radio and television singer, began telling the "Noel Story" during her broadcast.

Noel is centrally located for canoe trips down the Elk River and its tributaries of Big Sugar Creek and Indian Creek. These fast-moving and clear-water streams are some of the grandest scenery in the Ozarks. Dotted along the banks of the Elk River are lovely and shaded campgrounds, along with a number of canoe rental outlets that offer various lengths of float trips. Like the rest of the Ozarks where Noel is located, trees create a blaze of color in the fall and the wildflowers do the same in the spring, but it's the historical bluffs overhanging the roads that are the most breathtaking. These overhanging bluffs provide a panorama of limestone splendor unmatched by any in the Ozarks.
