On The Road Again

The McDonald County freshmen football team improved to 6-2 for the season with a 27-6 win over Springfield Central on Monday night in Springfield.

The Mustangs took a 7-0 lead on their first possession of the game when Cole Martin capped a long drive with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Malick Taylor. Jared Mora then added the first of his three extra points.

Central cut the lead to 7-6 on its ensuing possession with a four-yard touchdown after the Bulldogs drove the length of the field. But McDonald County held on to the two-point conversion attempt to leave the Mustangs with a 7-6 lead late in the first quarter.

McDonald County stretched the lead to 14-6 at halftime on a 14-yard touchdown run by Jakobe Montes and Mora's PAT.

McDonald County added a pair of insurance touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The first came on Montes' eight-yard run before Martin hit Wyatt Jordan with a 60-yard bomb to close out the scoring.
