Board Discusses Contracts For Safe Room

The McDonald County R-1 School District Board of Education, at its Oct. 11 meeting, discussed contracts on a future FEMA safe room that will be built at Noel Primary School.

Brad Irwin of Paragon, the architect for the project, presented two contracts for the board's approval. Superintendent Mark Stanton had several questions about the contracts, and the board decided to table the contracts and continue negotiations while getting an opinion from the board's attorney. The board did pass a grant management form that Irwin presented.

Stanton reported to the board that he talked to Controlled Technology Solutions, the builder for the athletic sports complex and the new turf field, and it is scheduled to start the field on Oct. 29.

Transportation director Clyde Davidson reported the district got a grant for three buses at $22,000 per bus.

Bob Campbell, director of facilities and maintenance, reported the boiler at Noel Elementary needed to be replaced. The board approved the expenditure.

In other business, the board heard a presentation from Lizzie Wilkinson of Rocky Comfort Elementary School about the hunter education program and the greenhouse that she runs there.
