Cassville Sweeps Past MCHS Volleyball

The Cassville Lady Wildcats defeated McDonald County, 25-17, in the third and deciding set to claim a 25-14, 19-25, 25-17 win on Oct. 4 at MCHS.

In the opening set, the teams were tied 9-9 when the Lady Wildcats outscored McDonald County 16-4, including four straight to break the tie, for the win.

In the second set, McDonald County built a 16-11 lead on the serving of Kaycee Factor and Kelli Brennand. Factor had six consecutive service points, while Brennand had three, to help build the lead. Cassville closed to 22-19, but McDonald County scored the final three points of the set for the win.

McDonald County jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the third set, but Cassville went on a 9-1 run to take an 11-7 advantage. McDonald County came back to tie the set at 11-11 and 12-12 before the Lady Wildcats took control of the set by scoring six straight points for an 18-12 lead. McDonald County closed to 22-17, but Cassville won the match by scoring three straight points to win the set.

McDonald County won the junior varsity match in straight sets, 25-17, 25-12.

East Newton

East Newton defeated the Lady Mustangs in straight sets on Oct. 2 at MCHS.

The Lady Patriots opened the match with an 8-2 run before McDonald County scored six of eight points to cut the lead to 10-8. East Newton responded by outscoring the Lady Mustangs, 15-8, the rest of the way for a 25-16 win.

Tied at 13-13 in the second set, East Newton went on a 12-2 run to claim a 25-15 win.

In the junior varsity match, McDonald County posted a 25-10, 25-18 win.

After dropping all three of its matches at the Mount Vernon tournament on Oct. 6, the Lady Mustangs fall to 1-19 on the season entering their Oct. 8 match at Gravette. McDonald County is at Seneca on Oct. 11 before hosting the Lady Mustang Classic on Oct. 13.
