Black, Orange And Furry Ready For Homes

Thursday, October 4, 2018

Lots of amazing dogs and cats will be available for adoption at discounted rates during Joplin Humane Society's "Black and Orange Furry Sale." Shelter workers say that 110 cats and kittens and 105 dogs and puppies are currently waiting for homes, and more great pets become available every day. The shelter will offer "door buster prizes" with the first 10 adoptions getting a free customized ID tag for their newly adopted pet.

"All pets with any amount of black or orange fur will be offered at $20; there is no shortage of beautiful dogs and cats hoping to be placed in their fur-ever home before the holiday season begins," said Connie Andrews, executive director. "We have taken in more than 345 animals so far in September, our shelter is full and we want to see these homeless dogs and cats get chosen for their special homes."

"All dogs and cats will be neutered, made current on all vaccines including rabies, treated for parasites and micro-chipped," said Tianna Fisher, shelter services manager. "This is a chance to get a great adoption deal and an even greater new family member."

The Black and Orange Furry Sale kicked off at 1 p.m. when the shelter opened Monday, Oct. 1, and runs through closing on Sunday, Oct. 7.

Shelter workers remind everyone that adopting a pet is a commitment and encourage potential adopters to give adoption very serious consideration.

"Getting a pet is like making a promise of forever," said Connie Andrews. "We don't want anyone to jump into this decision lightly and regret it. Many of our pets are at our shelter because someone didn't think about that decision beforehand."

All adoptions require approved applications, which includes verbal or written landlord approval.

The Joplin Humane Society is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
