Special Veterans Day Ceremony Planned

McDonald County Historical Society volunteers are preparing for Sunday's special candle lighting ceremony that will honor veterans.

The special ceremony, which is open to all veterans, their families and the general public, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at the Pineville Community Center.

As Americans gather across the country to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, local organizers are hosting a Veterans Day ceremony to honor those who served and sacrificed.

During World War I, more than 382 soldiers from McDonald County answered the call to service. Seventeen of those soldiers sacrificed their lives.

The candle lighting ceremony will honor all veterans, with special remembrance of the 17 who sacrificed, said Karen Dobbs, Historical Society president.

Any family member or anyone who has information or photos of the following soldiers is asked to contact the Historical Society.
